He that never changes his opinion, never corrects his mistakes, will never be wiser on the morrow than he is today.
Tyron Edwards
Unfortunately, I think that many people are quite content never becoming any wiser. How else do you explain people who keep repeating the same mistakes over and over? How else do you explain that most people in the US (80%) don’t read a book after school?
They don’t invite any new information in and, therefore, never have anything upon which to base an opinion change…unless it has to do with the latest on whatever reality show is watched. The level of knowledge and wisdom stays almost the same as the day they last attended high school or college, if they made it that far.
I think wisdom is gained by taking knowledge and putting it into action. Where is the wisdom going to come from given the above?
So taking the opposite of what is said in this quote, to be wiser we must learn enough to be able to change our opinions. We must learn enough to be able to correct our mistakes. And we must take action with that new knowledge to turn it into wisdom.
Becoming wiser then means learning and taking right action for as long as you live. I guess it’s up to us to decide how we learn enough.
