You Will Get It

January 27th, 2009 · No Comments

If you think about disaster, you will get it.  Brood about death and you hasten your demise.  Think positively and masterfully, with confidence and faith, and life becomes more secure, more fraught with action, richer in achievement and experience.

Eddie Rickenbacker

Since Rickenbacker died in 1973, I guess you can’t call the advice in this inspirational quote new age nonsense.  I imagine he said this based on the life he led and the experiences he had.

I said it before, what you experience has to do with where your focus is.  If you focus on disaster and death, all you will see is disaster and death regardless of what good, positive and wonderful things are going on around you.

It’s like an email I received a little while back.  The author stated that sales this Christmas season were up.  But he things it’s due to folks just having to have the latest gadget even if they are living in their car.  Yes, he actually said that.  He didn’t see it as a wonderful sign.  Of course, he has a product to sell and he’s focusing on the pain people are in so he can sell his solution.  I find it ironic, though, coming from someone who generally sells positive products and gives positive messages.

I read somewhere, but have not verified, that more millionaires were created during the depression than at any other time in history.  Talk about getting your focus and attitude right!  And as bad as times seem now, they are nowhere near as bad as in the Depression of the 1930s at present.

You need to think positively and have confidence and faith.  I know; easier said than done.  I am one who has a big problem with that because I have the habit of thinking negatively and letting my emotions rule.  Probably something I learned from someone who went through the Depression in a bad way.

However, it is time to change those habits and I am working on the negative thoughts.  I use the simple expedient of saying, “NO!”, to myself when I realize I am thinking negatively.  Or I use STOP.  Over time, it is working.  I definitely do not have as many negative thoughts as I once did.  It also helps to read up-lifting and positive things in books, magazines and websites.
