White Envelope Christmas Story

December 19th, 2008 · No Comments

I’m doing something a little unusual for me here today.  I am inspired by today’s story in Insight of the Day.  It is called “For the Man Who Hated Christmas“.  You can find the original story here: http://www.whiteenvelopeproject.org/originalstory.html

It is a story I have read a couple of times before in Insight of the Day.  As you can see by that url, it generated the White Envelope Project in 2006.  The story of that present is here:  http://www.whiteenvelopeproject.org/ourstory.html  And, yes, the White Envelope Project was a present.

While you can use that site, and please do if you feel so inclined, there are many other charities that you can help this holiday season.  And if for some reason, you are not inclined to give to an organized charity, then find your own cause close to your home.

I remember when our kids were younger and in 4H, the 4H club would create packages at Christmas to take to those who were having difficulties.  They would include canned goods and turkeys and hams and whatever to make a good Christmas meal.

My husband and I delivered Meals on Wheels on the weekends till that program was canceled due to lack of funds.  It was something that we contributed to at Christmas time.

Something we do now is leave very large tips when we go out to eat.  Those waiters are hard working people who sometimes need a little helping hand.  You can do the same with any service people.

Just by shopping for your own Christmas presents, you can find several opportunities for sharing including the bell ringer from the Salvation Army, giving books to children through Barnes and Noble, food drives and toy drives in your local community, and buying presents from those tags hanging on the trees in various locations.

Isn’t it great how all these opportunities to share surround us?  Remember, it’s the last weekend before Christmas.
