Frankl uses faith in this quote and considering what he weathered, perhaps he knows best. However large or small your faith, this will determine how well you weather whatever storm comes your way. I think it also goes to your ‘why’. If your ‘why’ is strong enough, it will keep you going no matter what obstacles are thrown at you.

A man with small dreams who doubts he can even achieve those will not continue on when the first road block, or even a bump in the sidewalk, is reached. It’s too hard. It wasn’t meant to be. It’s easier to just slide through life (read yesterdays’ inspirational quote).

But a man with faith in himself and faith in his dream will get through what is thrown at him. “I will do it come hell or high water!”

I guess the question becomes how do you get that kind of faith, that kind of determination. I think first off you need to be sure the dream is yours. Not your parent’s, not your school’s, not society’s but yours.

And you need to be sure it is right for you. No matter how much she might have wanted it, my 5′1″ mother could never be a basketball star (not that she wanted to).

Then you must determine your ‘why’ for this dream. Why do you want it? And keep asking why till you get to the root desire.

It must be a heart-felt, soul-deep ‘why’, because this is going to be what gets you through all the obstacles, failures and detours on your road to your dream. They will happen. That’s just the nature of this adventure - to give you an adventure.
