People who consider themselves victims of their circumstances will always remain victims unless they develop a greater vision for their lives.
Stedman Graham
This reminds me of a success story of a woman I heard recently as compared to a young woman I know who is a victim. The first woman had been a single mother living on welfare. Because of her daughter, she sought out a better life. She went from making about $100 per week to buying her own home and seeing her daughter graduate from college.
Even with her own father telling her there was no way she could own her own home, she held onto the dream and found the way to do it. She developed a greater vision for her life than being a mother taking welfare.
This is vastly different from the second young woman, also on a type of welfare, who seems to do all she can to sabotage the chances she says she wants to make life better for her and her children. And she keeps getting pregnant even though it affects her health and her chances to get ahead.
When given a grant to go to college to learn a skill such as nursing, within the first week of school, she married a convict who just got out of jail. He decides they need to move to another town three hours away which they do, till he ends up in jail again for possession. She ends up walking away from her shot at college.
It’s a story that continues every time she has a chance to make her life better and more abundant. And she has had surprisingly several shots at a chance of improvement. She is a victim. Nothing is ever her fault which she will tell you non-stop, even though she is constantly the one that puts herself into bad situations and surrounds herself with people like the convict she married.
She has no greater vision for her life nor the determination to follow a greater vision as the first woman did. That woman developed a great vision for her life. Now, not only has sent her daughter to college and seen her graduate with an accounting degree, but the woman has created her own successful business as well.
