There are no hopeless situations; there are only people who have grown hopeless about them.
Clare Boothe Luce
Hope is an emotion. It is something within us. A situation in and of itself does not hold hope or hopelessness. It is how we feel about the situation that makes it so.
So again, it is what is within us that shapes what we see on the outside. It’s like describing a situation as good or bad: “Maybe yes. Maybe no.”
Sometimes I think hope is similar to wishful thinking. Someone might wish something to come true but does nothing to help it along. Other times, hope is more of a positive expectation. You expect things to happen a certain way, and then act and think as if they will.
I think this quote can be more applied to the people and situations where hope is of the wishful thinking variety. If you expect things to turn out alright, you’re going to keep that expectation and act toward that end. If you just wish that they turn out good, it won’t take much for you to become hopeless.
