Our real problem is not our strength today; it is rather the vital necessity of action today to ensure our strength tomorrow.
Calvin Coolidge
Like so many inspirational quotes, I can apply this advice with a twist to my life. It is not so much what I have today, how strong I am or trained or whatever, it is more what actions I am taking to continue to be strong or learned or whatever.
It is what I am doing today to meet tomorrow in the best manner I can that is important. So the core of this inspirational quote is what action am I taking now?
This leads me to another quote:
Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant. - Robert Louis Stevenson
Taking account of my “strength” today is checking on the harvest. But how am I preparing each day to ensure my better tomorrow? How am I planting the seeds for tomorrow?
Yes, I do need to live in the now, for now is all we truly have. But if I just glide through the now…well, entropy will start the downward spiral and I would actually be sliding through life.
I do try to take time to smell the roses and to be grateful for all I have for I am truly blessed. Besides enjoying the now and appreciating all I have and am now as best I can, my actions today give me something to do to ensure my tomorrow.
