Stop the Waste

November 10th, 2009 · No Comments

Regret for time wasted can become a power for good in the time that remains, if we will only stop the waste and the idle, useless regretting.

Arthur Brisbane

If we take all the energy and time we waste regretting the time wasted and apply it to constructive focused action toward our goal(s), then it becomes a power for good.  At least that’s the way I boil down the above quote.

I’ve wasted time.  Why spend more time regretting time I’ve wasted?  Why spend the energy regretting time I’ve wasted?  What’s done is done.  I can’t change the past.

Sure it would be better if I didn’t waste my time to start with.  And I’m not talking about the time we spend in recreation or quiet contemplation refreshing ourselves for the other activities of our days.

However, I’m willing to bet all of us waste some of our precious time.  Some days I’m worse at this than others, even thought I work at improving myself.  But why would it make any sense to then spend more time sitting around regretting that wasted time?

I will tell myself to knock it off and get back to work.  Take that energy and time I might otherwise spend regretting and use it in my work.  Now I can stop wasting time and won’t have anything to regret.
