The unthankful heart discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings.
Henry Ward Beecher
This inspirational quote goes back to what I’ve been journaling about in the past. What you focus on is what you see and get. Someone who is not thankful or grateful won’t see the things to be grateful for. They won’t see all the many blessings or mercies even in a beautiful sunshine-filled day.
But someone with the frame of mind to be on the outlook for things to be grateful for will find them as they go through the day.
This all led me to an idea of another good method for changing the frame of mind most of us have. Face it. Just about everything we see or hear from the media is negative. We are brought up negative and taught to focus on our faults, failures, and weaknesses rather than on our strengths and successes. This little technique is to help us develop the habit of finding things to be grateful for.
If we can take a minute or two every hour to pause and just find even one small thing to be grateful for, I think over time it will develop the habit of looking for good things. I am going to try it, especially now that I need and want to get back into my own personal development developing a more positive frame of mind.
