The big rewards come to those who travel the second, undemanded mile.
Bruce Barton
This quote is another way of saying that the person who goes the extra mile is the one who will reap the big rewards. Who knows? Maybe this is where “going the extra mile” came from. I’m sure someone will let me know.
What matters is that I won’t get the pay raise, promotion, successful business, or whatever if I only do the normal everyday stuff that everyone else also does. I have to be willing to do more, work longer, think more exceptionally, etc. to get more than the person who doesn’t. Otherwise we would all have the big rewards, right?
If I will just do what other people won’t for a few years, I will be able to do what other people can’t later in life. It’s all up to me. Do I want the big rewards? Or do I want to be like everyone else doing normal everyday stuff and getting normal everyday rewards.
These are questions I really need to think hard on as my days are interrupted yet again by others’ concerns and problems. But at least I am here to help for a short duration even if it does take away time and attention from my own concerns and priorities. When it is done, then I can start again knowing that I must travel the second, undemanded mile.
