Purpose is what gives life a meaning.
Charles Henry Parkhurst, D.D.
I believe that purpose is what gives life direction. If you have no purpose, you don’t know where you are going. Each day just melts into the next because of the “same ol’, same ol’”. Jim Rohn says that if you have no direction, someone else will give you one.
With no direction, there’s no passion, unless it’s just a passion to get done with the day so you can sit in front of the tube drinking beer or soda (tongue firmly in cheek).
And with no direction, there is also no focus. Why focus on anything because you don’t know where you are going? Things happen to you. You don’t make things happen. I guess this means someone else is setting you direction. You just allow things to happen to you by whoever.
Purpose does not have to be grandiose. You don’t have to save the whales or end hunger. I read in a post on another blog (which unfortunately I forgot to bookmark) back in December about the poster’s 80-something neighbor whose passion and purpose is turning his yard into a Disney World.
You can get a purpose at any age. You can have anything be your purpose. Being the best stay at home mom you can be is a great, fantastic purpose. Being the best neurosurgeon you can be is another.
Just pick a direction. It doesn’t matter if you change your mind later. It’s not set in concrete. Things change as time and your situation go along. Just chose a way now and learn about it and take action on it.
