If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love. Don’t be surly at home, then go out in the street and start grinning “good morning” at total strangers.

Very good advice here. The way I was raised, I was taught to be polite to others. However, this didn’t necessarily translate to being polite to the other people I share a home. As an adult trying to improve myself, I now see this as something I need to work on. As a mom used to giving orders, I am into some serious re-training reminding myself to use “please” and “thank you” with my family.
I think that being polite to your loved ones is as important as being sure they get your smiles, especially if you only have one or two. Realizing that smiling can uplift you as well as the person who receives the smile, it just makes sense to bestow the smiles on those you love. It will help make your home more harmonic.
Now to just put that rationale into practice. I mean, it’s really not fair for your family to be the ones that receive only the bad moods and temper tantrums. If you really love them, then how much good can you do by giving them your smiles? They are the ones I love, so I should be and will be more careful and generous to them with my good moods and my smiles.
Think about it and smile.
