You will find yourself refreshed by the presence of cheerful people. Why not make earnest effort to confer that pleasure on others? Half the battle is gained if you never allow yourself to say anything gloomy.
Lydia M. Child
Maybe I’m just being a contrarian today but part of this does not seem to apply to me. Yes, cheerful people can lift my spirits for a little while. But being around someone who is always cheerful for very long… Well, that just tires me out. I get more energy and become refreshed from quiet peaceful pursuits like reading than from being around people.
However, not allowing myself to say anything gloomy is a very good tactic to help remain positive. If I don’t say it and don’t think it, then I have to be thinking more positively. I am not focusing on the negative. I focus on the positive aspects of life.
I guess by not allowing myself to say anything gloomy, I have gone half the way to lessening negativity in my life. Then I can use other tactics to help get my thinking off negative subjects as well such as finding things to be grateful for on the hour while I work, especially now I was shown how to set a timer on my computer. Gives me a nice break and a positive outlook. If that more positive outlook makes it more refreshing for other people to be around me, when they must be, then we all win.
