We seem to be on a theme here of not letting fear stop you. I think it doesn’t matter whether you are on the “downside of advantage” or not. You need courage to move out of your present situation.

You may indeed be disadvantaged or you may just be comfortable. Fear can still stop you from moving onward and upward.

However, there are some people (by no means do I mean all) who seem very comfortable in their disadvantaged circumstances. Even with programs providing free college education, free or almost free housing, free babysitting and free transportation, some people would just rather not…not work hard to become educated, not have to go get a job, not have to get up early to go to school, etc.

Around here, the firefighters call these people “porch people”. They get their government checks and then sit on their porches smoking and drinking beer watching the world go by. It does indeed take courage but maybe even more than that, it takes a mindset change, a dream and determination.
