I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. ‘Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approve their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death.
Thomas Paine
I admire this type of person as well. I don’t know that I would have the courage to pursue my principles “unto death”. I’m not even sure what principles I hold daily other than learning something new every day and trying not to hurt anyone.
I admire those who can find something to smile about even in the most tragic of circumstances. And there is something so moving, so inspiring, and even so weird about those who can find the strength to go on. I don’t know how some can do it in the circumstances that they have faced. Maybe when the only other alternative is death, then they have no choice.
Maybe I am just one of those of the little minds. I admire those who do not have little minds but wonder how I would react and act if stressed as some have been. I have been so blessed in my life, I don’t know what I would do.
