I think of life itself now as a wonderful play that I’ve written for myself…and so my purpose is to have the utmost fun playing my part.
Shirley MacLaine
Even if I don’t believe that I totally write out the whole script for my life all by myself, it is important to realize that all this is just temporary. Whether I believe in Heaven and Hell or that my energy/spirit will just return to the Universe, this life I’m living will not go on forever. Even if you believe in reincarnation, this particular life is still just temporary.
I’m thinking that I should do my best, then, to enjoy the experiences I have. Maybe I won’t enjoy every experience but there is something to be gleaned from every experience even if it’s just, “I don’t like that. Don’t do it again.” Then I should take steps to make sure I never get into that situation again if I can help it.
But back to having the utmost fun playing my part. I do believe that the decisions we make and the actions we take (or don’t take) do a large part in writing our lives. As we live with the results, we can take two courses of action. We can beat ourselves up and whine and complain.
Or we can make the most of what has happened. Surely trying to find the silver lining if things have gone “wrong” or having lots of fun is much better for us, for our attitudes and for our peace of mind.
