One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.
Abraham Maslow
When this inspirational quote says one can go back toward safety, I’m not so sure it really is safety you are going back to. What you go back to is what is known, not necessarily safe. Going forward toward growth is a risk. It is risking the unknown.
But with the risk comes opportunity. Opportunity can bring growth in many different areas of life. It could be spiritual growth, monetary growth, career growth and growth in wisdom. Even relationships can grow from taking a risk.
But as wonderful as an opportunity for growth is, there is still the risk and the fear of the unknown outcome. So over and over, as the quote says, fear must be overcome and growth must be chosen.
The way I look at it is that the only way to change things and to have a chance for making things better is to overcome the fear and take the risk. Otherwise you might as well not even get off the couch.
