Genius is eternal patience.
Michelangelo
I have to disagree with this quote as stated. I think genius is eternal perseverance which is what I believe Michelangelo actually meant. Maybe this just didn’t translate well. After all, a man who painted a ceiling in a chapel on his back for weeks on end was a man who persevered.
It does take patience to endure but it also takes persistent action and determination. And because of those, we have the products of his genius.
There are many very smart people in this world but you don’t hear of most of them. Why? Because they give up. They don’t have the patience or the fortitude to persevere.
So maybe that is a sign of true genius. I don’t know. I do know that the ones we hear about are those that stick with whatever their calling or talents are which take perseverance…and patience.
