Strength of numbers is the
delight of the timid.
The Valiant in spirit glory in
fighting alone.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Dyer goes off on a discourse about ego and spirit again. While he makes good points and relates a little of it back to this quote, I think he’s gone off on a tangent.
To me, this is quite simply about those who are scared, or timid, and need others to agree with them for them to work toward whatever it is they say they want.
The Valiant, however, is an individual who has his goal set and goes after it regardless of what anyone or any circumstance around him says differently.
Dyer labels this essay “Privacy”. I think more realistically it could be “Single-Mindedness” or “Perserverance”. The Valiant one knows what he wants and goes after it with or without anyone helping him. He fights alone if need be.
The timid must get others to go along with him before he takes even one step towards his goal. He only has courage when there is strength of numbers.
One thing Dyer did suggest that was good was to write your plans down in a journal. This satisfies the need to announce things to the world (thus pleasing ego). However, the journal doesn’t argue back telling you all the reasons you can’t do whatever you are set to do like most people do.
