Wealthy people tend to be orderly, while those who struggle have lots of messes. Each mess is a lock on the gate that keeps abundance out.
Raymond Aaron
I’m in real trouble here with this quote if it’s true. I’m a messy person. My whole family is messy (and I get tired of picking up and cleaning up behind them.) We have lots of clutter around and each of us has our own personal clutter.
Part of it comes from not wanting to throw away things that link us to people who are gone and that link us to times past like our own childhoods or those of our children.
Another part comes from the fact we are in love with the written word. We collect books and magazines. I even have paper copies of ebooks printed out for a more comfortable read away from the computer. These are only thrown away when superseded by new information and my once-in-awhile deep cleanings.
For me, I also collect things like teapots and teas, tools for my spinning of fiber, and the presents given to me when my children were young. My husband has his coins and my son his firefighter items as well as science fiction things.
Another part of the mess comes from being lazy and disorganized. Yes, that book needs to up on the bookshelf, but I will do that when I get up. Of course by then, I’ve forgotten to do that (I do work on this very hard and mostly keep my books piled up on the bookshelves. Other family members…not so much.)
Or I simply don’t have a good place to hold all the teas I collect or a good place to display all the tea pots so these things wind up in boxes or sitting on the kitchen counter. Not only does this clutter the kitchen, it gives more chance for harm to come to my precious teapots.
If I look at each mess, including those within my psyche and body, as a lock on the gate of abundance, then I really must add cleaning up those messes as part of my personal self-improvement. Even if it doesn’t unlock the gate, it will relieve the load on my mind created by the messes and clutter. Time to let go of some things which is why to declutter and organize is on my daily written list of goals. I will take (and am taking) a step each day to remove some of the clutter.
