Every decision you make - every decision - is not a decision about what to do. It’s a decision about Who You Are. When you see this, when you understand it, everything changes. You begin to see life in a new way. All events, occurrences, and situations turn into opportunities to do what you came here to do.
Neale Donald Walsch
Walsch as the author of “Conversations with God” has raised quite a bit of controversy. I have not read his books. I did, however, read the quote above.
I have to admit a bit of shock at the change in perspective it gave me. It tells me that each decision I make tells all there is to know about me. That decision to read for an extra hour and lunch rather than get back to building a business tells the world I would much rather read than be successful or to do the hard work. Hmmm, that’s pretty true.
That dessert with my meal tells all that I am a glutton rather than someone trying to improve my health. Deciding to sit down and watch a TV program rather than sweep and mop the kitchen tells all I am lazy and would rather live in a pig sty than expend the effort to work.
I had never thought about how each decision really tells about your character and the kind of person you are. It certainly does change my point of view. The question is will it change my actions?
(Note: Just to clear up things written in the journal above. I have dessert only on Saturdays which is my cheat day whereas the rest of the week I do one to two 24 hour fasts along with counting nutrition and calories. I do exercise four days a week. I would, however, much rather watch TV than sweep and mop but nobody else is going to do it.)
