Curiosity Overrides Fear

February 28th, 2008 · No Comments

When you are feeling fear of some project or idea or dream, ask yourself, “What am I still curious enough about to override my fear?” Follow your curiosity like a delicious scent leading you to a kitchen. Let your curiosity peel back the dry, bitter skin of drudgery to find the sweet fruit of fun at the core. Focus on what you love rather than fixating on the feelings of discomfort that sometimes accompany desire.

Carol Lloyd

Do you ever feel the procrastination that is brought on by fear when you are looking at a new project? I know I do. And it is fear that brings on that procrastination. What will go wrong now? Why is there always something new to do? Why can’t this be easy? Sometimes I just have to force myself to get on with it.

This quote gives a method that could be a lot more interesting way to proceed. You look at the project or the big dream you want to pursue, and instead of seeing the obstacles, like our last quote talked about, you search for some aspect of the project or dream that triggers your curiosity. Most likely anything that is going to trigger your curiosity is something you have an interest in anyway. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be curious.

So now just focus on that interesting aspect and let it lead you into the project or dream. Just as the last sentence says, you focus on what you love, or at least find curious.

That focus helps you over and through the obstacles and fear. That focus on what has aroused your curiosity is a positive thing and will help you through the initial discomfort and fear of starting a new project. Just another tool in the personal development toolbox.
