We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.
Marian Wright Edelman
It’s amazing how little things can add up. You eat an extra helping of whatever every night and slowly the weight goes on. All of a sudden you look in the mirror and you are overweight. It’s just a small thing that adds up to something big.
It works to the good as well. One good way is developing habits that are to your benefit. For instance, journaling every day, looking over your projects weekly, or exercising every day. Pick one thing and work on it till it becomes a habit. The add another till it becomes habit and then another. Pretty soon you won’t even recognize yourself. It’s these small things that can add up to big things. And it could have an effect that you never could have foreseen.
Another perspective is when you are faced with what looks like an overwhelming challenge or project. If you break it down to the smallest steps possible and just keep taking action on them, one day the whole things will be done. You will have accomplished what seemed too big, too overwhelming, before. This is a way to make a big difference by changing small things every day.
