Being Inspired by a Great Purpose

September 18th, 2007 · 2 Comments

When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds;

Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world.

Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.

Patanjali

Have you ever looked up from something and realized hours have passed; you forgot to eat or you were way past your bedtime? Maybe that activity could be the basis for an extraordinary project. You certainly were in a “new, great and wonderful world”.

Reading books, mostly science fiction by my favorite authors, creates the wonderful world for me. Surprisingly, it can also happen when I create websites or research and write articles for websites.

But I think this passage means to go beyond that. I think it addresses what some call a “burning desire” or magnificent obsession”. It is when we find these and take action, that the Universe moves toward us by awakening “dormant forces, faculties and talents”. That is how we become a greater person than we ever dreamed of by losing ourselves within that “great purpose.”

For some that great purpose can be helping the local little league when the title. For others it can be creating a home based business that frees you from the chains of an unwanted or despised job. For still others, it can be making a mission of providing a loving home for your family.

There is no requirement that a great purpose be some lofty mission that serves humanity as a whole or saves the whales. It can be a wonderful as saving your own backyard. Find your own great purpose and see your mind begin to transcend the limitations you have known till now.

    Thank you, Tina, for stopping by and sharing. I saw the quote by Claude M. Bristol on your blog and checked out the book. I have added it to my amazon wish list and hope it shows up under the Christmas tree this year.
