Be Wise By the Misfortunes of Others

January 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Better be wise by the misfortunes of others than by your own.

Aesop

Simply put, it is smarter to learn by the experience of others than to have to learn by your own bad experience. Conversely, it’s also true you can learn a lot by watching how others succeed.

Don’t be an egotist who thinks no one else has anything to teach you.

This is different from having people nay say an idea you put forward when they have no experience of their own with it and only xx-hand information and hearsay.

If you want to do something find people who are doing it or something similar. They will be able to tell you the pitfalls to watch out for and the things that helped them to achieve it.

It’s simply a matter of getting good information, from others’ good and bad experiences, as a help in determining your own plan of attack for whatever it is you want to do.

None of this negates that sooner or later you will have to get out there and take action. This quote simply points out that it’s better to take smart action by learning from others.
