Whatever failures I have known, whatever errors I have committed, whatever follies I have witnessed in private and public life have been the consequence of action without thought.
Bernard M. Baruch
Looks like Baruch knows that you have to do some thinking and some planning before you take action.
It drives me crazy when people around me do things without spending even five minutes trying to think through the potential outcomes. The consequences can be as minor as having to do the task over again with the correct tools in the correct manner after whatever breaks again, all the way up to life-changing and even life-threatening results.
There’s another inspirational quote from Mary Beard that goes along the lines of
Study without action is futile. Action without study is fatal.
So the point of the above quote is rather simple to conclude. Use you brain! Think first before leaping - at least long enough to know you’re not leaping off a 500′ cliff. Look at the situation long enough and think through the possible consequences of your actions.
Yes, action must be taken and is a considerable step in achieving the results you want. However, try to determine if the actions you want to take will give you the desired result.
