Commitment with accountability closes the gap between intention and results.
Sandra Gallagher
Yep, we can intend with the best of them, but unless we have something or someone holding us accountable, it’s real easy to let things slide. In fact, we might let things slide so much we don’t get any real results.
We might think we are real busy but what we have is activity, not action. Action is focused, concentrated work toward the result we want. Activity is just busyness.
Having some way of being held accountable helps us keep that focus. There are different ways of doing accountability.
You can try working with an accountability partner, which I have. I hate to say that one didn’t work too well for me. She kept missing phone calls and then I got sick and couldn’t talk. Maybe it would work better for someone else if you can find a reliable partner but both of you have to be reliable.
I tried stating a challenge in the forum of a small membership I’m in. That worked pretty well for me. (Makes me wonder why I didn’t keep up with doing that? Other things came up?)
Some say accountability is better if there’s a price of some type to be paid for failure like a money forfeiture. That never works well for me as it’s a punishment and I don’t respond well that way. Maybe that would work for you.
Others say a reward for meeting the result is good. But what a good reward is for one person may not be so good for another. However, I think “Attaboys!” are always good. That pat on the back can give you a great feeling. The good result from your work can give you an even better one.
Whatever we use, I guess we just have to find what works best for each of us.
Note: I just joined a very small group where I will be held accountable for getting things done. It is well worth it to me to pay to be a part of this. Already I am getting my thoughts and what I know organized into a plan of action. It’s a good feeling and I look forward to positive results in the weeks to come after laying the foundation.
